Kaneesha Worthington. My art journey began in 2020, during the pandemic, when everyone was quarantined to stay home. I was furloughed from work and was the first time I was forced to be still, since I was 16. I was nervous if I would ever return back to work and if I didn’t; what would I do?, what was I good at?, and what hobbies do I have? I began exploring painting and eventually digital art applications. I found something I could spend hours doing, that felt like no time had really passed. From there, I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing mentors, fellow artist peers, and friends who support and motivate me. My family has also been a big part of my journey. Happily, I did return back to work during that year, but I can confidently say that I have found my passion and purpose. It’s been a blessing to see how my footprint has grown with pop up shops, festivals, businesses, and now galleries. I bet you are wondering… why use the artist name, Canela Paint? Canela means cinnamon in Spanish. It was a nickname (Canela de piel) given to me over 15 years ago, by a friend who always wanted to let me know how much she loved my skin tone. The name grew on me. It embodies self-love and I hope that others, who look like me, see the beauty of themselves in my art.
